The Heartful Winter Hat

Free Crochet Pattern

Valentine’s day is coming and this hat full of hearts is the perfect accessory for the day of love and every day! The Heartful Winter Hat is a women’s hat that is meant to fit loosely. Worked by carrying the coordinating color behind the stitches, the double layer creates a warm hat for even the coldest of days.

A quick and easy pattern, the fair isle style hat is worked in super bulky yarn and can be completed in just over an hour for a quick turnaround. Your customers and loved ones are going to want one in every color!

The women’s beanie pattern with hearts throughout is a written pattern with photo tutorials for the color changing stitches and the pompom. While the pattern indicates that it is for intermediate crocheters, once the color change is figured out, the hat is a breeze to make!

SPECIAL NOTES:

Important Notes:

  • No matter your skill level, I always suggest that you read through the pattern from beginning to end before beginning your work just to be sure you don’t have any questions that might cause frustration in the midst of your project.
  • MC = main color and CC = coordinating color

Notes on Stitches Used:

  • Single Crochet Ribbing: Working in the back loop only, single crochet back and forth in rows to create a stretchy ribbing.
  • When working the upper hat portion, you’ll be carrying the coordinating color (CC) along with you as you stitch. For a cleaner look, catch the CC behind your main color (MC) stitches.
  • SC-CC = Single crochet with coordinating color: to work the stitch, with main color (MC) on the hook, insert hook through next stitch, draw up a loop with coordinating color (CC), yarn over with MC, pull through both loops on the hook.

Free Crochet Pattern, Heartful

With 9.00 mm hook and super bulky yarn

To Make the Band at the Bottom of the Hat

CH 6

Row 1: (working in back loop only,) SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC in each ch across,  CH1, turn. 5 sts

Row 2: (working in back loop only) SC in each st across, CH1, turn. 5 sts  Repeat for a total of 36 rows

Do not fasten off.

With right sides together and crochet hook on the right-hand side of the piece, SLST the last row of SCs (through the back loop) to the beginning row of chain sts, matching the stitches across. This will create a circular band.

Turn the cuff right-side out so that the seam is on the inside.

CH1 and continue the rest of the pattern working across the top of the ribbing. You’ll be working in rounds now.

I am often asked, where I purchase my branded buttons that I use in the center of the flowers. Here is a link to my supplier where you can order your own. (This is an affiliate link – you pay the same, but I make a few pennies to buy yarn) J http://tidd.ly/6ee2746
